SMIRNOFF PRESENTS: MASTER OF THE MIX LAUNCH PARTY // HOUSTON (PICS)

Share

The Houston Launch for "Master Of The Mix" was a sexy event held @ The Smirnoff Sanctuary last week that gave the attendees an early viewing of the new TV show airing on the Centric network and BET on Wednesday evenings (check your local listings). Hosted by Kid Capri and Just Blaze, this show guarantees to bring something to different to the table every week. What I love about this reality show is that these contestants aren't some thirsty, fame whores that decided the way up out of trailer park hell was to sell their soul on TV. These are all respected, world famous, critically acclaimed artists who are vying for not only a lil extra change in their pocket (250 Grand to be exact) and immortality in the form of a commemorative Smirnoff bottle, but are representing some of THE BEST the game has to offer and title of MASTER of the MIX.

THE SPORTS GENIUS: THE UPS AND DOWNS OF THE DALLAS COWBOYS

Share

Whats up World? I'm back on the scene with all the "Trill" sports info! Sorry, I ain't been blogging like Im suppose to....Im a busy man. Business and family are always comes 1st! I gotta be in the mood to blog and so far this football season, I've been half happy and half depressed at times. My Dallas Cowboys are looking bad rights now. There's no leadership, no direction, no commitment, no focus, no discipline, and no accountability on this very talented team. This is our home state Superbowl year. Its suppose to be live right now for Cowboys fans! Its a shame that Wade and Garrett think you can turn on a switch in the National Football League. You have to bring your "A" game every Sunday in the NFL. Especially when you're The Dallas Cowboys, because every other team in the league hates your guts and is going to bring their "A" game to beat you! But I hope we show more heart at noon in against the Texans. Sorry H-Town... I luv ya Baby! I went the college out there and I got family in 3rd Ward but he Texans are my AFC team! I wish them the best, too. Its like the Oilers and and if not the Cowboys, I would love to see a TEXAS team in it to win it! But as long the Texans go to the playoffs this year... I can't hear that dumb stat about them being the last team to NOT make the post season in professional sports especially since the Bobcats went to the NBA playoffs last year because of Texas' own Stephen Jackson. They have to handle business. I think they got good talent on both sides of the ball to do some damage this year. And Andre Johnson looked like Optimus Prime last week in that overtime win against the Redskins! Its a long season, its football, anything can happen. The Cowboys can turn it around, too. And if the Cowboys lose...Its gonna be a another month before I blog again.

SOCIALITE SPOTLIGHT: FLICKS FROM THE @REDBULL EMSEE BATTLE (HOUSTON)

PHRANCHYSE - THE WINNER

9TH WONDER KILLIN THE TURNTABLES

This past Thursday, Red Bull Sponsored The Road to 8Mile MC Battle at Numbers and Hood Socialite was in the house to check out what type of talent was representing the H on "The Road To 8 Mile". I was pretty shocked that not very many local MC's/Rappers that you hear about around town weren't at this event. It was an awesome opportunity to market yourself, make some noise, and meet some contacts.

Anyway, there were some pretty talented, and some not so strong MC's that took the stage to brave the crowd and the judges during the freestyle battle. DJ Good Grief held it down, as usual, providing plenty of ear candy throughout the night. The panel of judges consisted of Bun B, 9th Wonder, and Rhymefest, who also gave us a short performance. I have to give it to the contestants. It cant be a comfortable feeling to be on stage in front of people ready to boo you, rapping in front of legends who have been in the game for up to 20 years off the top of the dome. I get nervous just thinking about it! Much respect to everyone that participated and especially to Phranchyse, who ultimately won the competition. He will go on to represent Houston at the final battle held in Detroit, where Eminem himself will choose the the best of the best. Special thanks to Red Bull for a night of raw, uncut hip hop. SOCIALITE EXCLUSIVE: HIP HOP FOR HIV @ RELIANT CENTER (PICS)

The crowd was insane this past Friday night at the Hip Hop 4 HIV concert! This year’s concert featured performances from artists including Bun B, Lloyd Banks, Z-Ro, Plies, Paul Wall, The Party Boyz, Papareu, and Just Brittany. The energy was intense and excited fans hung over the barriers, reciting songs word for word, as those remaining in the crowd of threw up the "H" with pride as some of the hottest acts from Houston and around the country made their way up to the stage. Despite a 5 foot barrier and the presence of Houston police, there were several small altercations that broke out, due to sheer excitement, as fans tried to get a better view of the artists. Considering the fact that the demographic were ages 14-20, these types of issues are to be expected and anticipated and the staff at Reliant Center did a great job of keeping order and preserving the integrity of the event. With that being said, Hood Socialite braved the crowd and enjoyed VIP/Backstage Access to get YOU exclusive coverage!!

SOCIALITE EXCLUSIVE: KE$HA @ HOUSE OF BLUES 7/26/2010 (PICS)

Share
Whether you're a fan of Ke$ha or not, there is no denying the fact that she puts on a show for her fans. Houston based website DO713 graciously hooked Hood Socialite up with some free tickets to check her out at the House of Blues this past Tuesday, via Twitter, so we headed out to see what the chick had to offer live. Between the copious amounts of estrogen and hair spray in the venue, We WERE able to observe all of the die-hard, glitter faced and mostly drunk Ke$ha fans (girls and guys) in action. Filled with teenage angst and alot of beer, Ke$ha's fans really feel as though they have an unexplainable super-connection with her... or maybe the connection they have is with her songs, which are mostly about things like partying at rich guys houses and brushing her teeth with Jack Daniels after waking up in the morning feeling like P. Diddy. The performance, costumes, props, etc. were all completely outrageous and strange- that seems to be what the "Ke$ha-heads" love about her, and she certainly delivers just that. We were surprised that she played a few instruments and honestly, we have alot more respect for Ke$ha after this performance.  Even if you're not a fan of her music, she gets props from us for being a strategic and wise performer; she puts it on for her fans all the way.  Don't count Ke$ha out.  She'll be back.

(Oh yeah, some other chick named Lady GaGa blazed through town too. Wanna know where and how she kicked it during her time in the H? Click HERE.)

Have Hood Socialite at YOUR next event! Contact us @ hoodsocialite@gmail.com and we can make it happen. Check out more "Artography" by our very own Weishi after the jump.

SOCIALITE EXCLUSIVE: D*CK IS A HELLUVA DRUG

Share

Being single is the reality for a lot of beautiful, successful, and sexy women but regardless of your current situation, dating rituals, or team roster I think we can all agree that when you exist in a state of extended singlehood, otherwise known as celibacy, that good dick is hard to find (le sigh). Months will have passed by and when you finally do find a nice "piece"; it's like opening Pandora's Box. There is something about good dick that will truly make you lose your damn mind if you aren't careful...

We've all heard about women becoming "dickmatized" and doing things completely out of their character.... Have you (or someone you "know" *wink wink*) ever had a long, private, and personal "photo sessions" trying to balance on your heads with your ass propped up in the air, holding the Blackberry) in between their legs... all to perfect that winning $$ shot? Have YOU ever started a fight because he called someone "babe" on Facebook or got too friendly on Twitter? Have YOU ever beat up random female members because there is no way that heifer could be his cousin! Many restraining orders have been filed due to da dick.
Well, if any of those women sounds like you, chances are my friend, you have been "dickmatized". For some women, it can be a situation that can have the capability to take over your whole entire life. You can't function, be happy, or complete without the "D" in very close proximity. Believe me, I'm not here to judge but if you read this and feel like I'm talking to you... you just might want to continue reading below.

There was a time when I lived in the land of lame dick. It's like lame dick was everywhere. I couldn't get a cup of coffee without running into a lame ass dude who was attached to some lame ass dick. I refused to subject all this fabulousness to such piss poor pickings. In other words, the drought in GOOD dick was the main reason my water park was closed for the season. Honestly, I think "Lame dick dudes" are the most deceptive crature. Because there is no forewarning or test that can detect the quality of their "piece"; it's all trial and error and most times a losing crap shoot. Lames come in a variety of sizes and girths. They can be big, small, thin, or even thick. If you're unfortunate enough to run into this type of character LOVE (or good oral) has to come into play. If you haven't packed your bags and beat the bricks after the 2nd wacktastic encounter, MONEY has to be the only scientific explanation for a woman to stick around. It's a recession so I don't judge, but I chose to keep my cookie to myself.

From my experience, there are a very limited amount of people that you have a certain intense sexual chemistry with. So when you do find a good piece, especially after the type of drought I had, you tend to nurture and appreciate it. You don't take it for granted. You NEVER reject it when it needs you, even if it's 3am and you were sleeping when it called you. See, you gotta be open and communicate orally... put your ear up to the dick and listen to what he has to say. Go the extra mile for you lover and make sure it's more and more enjoyable every time you're together, but you CAN NOT and I repeat CAN NOT "worship" the dick. Its absolutely unacceptable to lose yourself and who you are for an appendage. We women have a tendency to do that when they meet someone that blows our back out. There is nothing worse than seeing a woman that has cultivated her talents, dream big dreams, and set high goals, so quick to throw it all away behind a piece of pipe. It reeks of desperation and believe me, men will smell that odor a mile away and exploit the hell out of the situation. Don't believe it won't happen to you. Give it some time... There are rules to this game and the most important one is that good sex does not equal a relationship.

Let me repeat... GOOD SEX DOES NOT EQUAL A RELATIONSHIP.

Some single woman automatically assume once you have good sex and the guy is single that they have first dibbs on him, and you are exclusive. If a real relationship is something you desire;contrary to popular belief, it takes more than a big butt (real or fake) and a mean twerk to keep any man (good or not). It takes time, commitment, and effort and I think we ALL (men and women) have gotten extremely lazy when it comes to pleasuring our mates, in every sense of the word. Physically, mentally, and emotionally, you have to give of yourself and be willing to communicate with your partner. In relationships, far too often we are scared and afraid of rejection and of being hurt. We have a tendency to do what's easy and give so much of our physical self and neglect everything else. We let everything else slide by the wayside and then wonder why your "boo" has moved on to greener pastures, or never even stuck around to graze before midnight. Sex alone can not satisfy a real man. Be honest, really honest with yourself, don't sell yourself short, and decide what you want and need. Just because you are single doesn't mean that you deserve less or should put up with anyone that comes your way, just so you can say you have a man. Believe me, just because a man has good dick doesn't mean he is the right one for you. Keep things in perspective , because it will help you in the long run. Take it from us GOOD DICK IS A HELLUVA DRUG!

Stay Strapped, Blessed, and Destressed

Socialite Exclusive: JUDAH Presents: The Amber Rose Instrumentals

Share

You have to respect a creative mind that can take trash that is Amber Rose and turn it into a beautiful and resonating piece of art. Even though Kanye has still fallen short of the mark in his literal translation, DC's uber producer Judah has picked up the slack creatively and along with UK's Dub MD presents the newest mix tape of beats titled "The Amber Rose Instrumentals". You have heard the genius of Judah before while listening to artist like Wale and Tabi Bonney and his roster includes any artist, signed or independent, making noise in the DMV area.

I was blessed to be able to chop it up with Judah a while back and the beastiness that booms through the speakers is a stark contrast to the deep voiced, laid back humble guy, creating tracks above a baptist church in Maryland. Overcoming early trials and disappointments, including a short bout with homelessness, I think the most impressive thing about Judah is his commitment to the community and to the music that has essentially given him life. Not only is he truly passionate about music but he gives DC a voice that its never really had in the world of hip hop. Are you listening?? The revolution will not be televised...

We are witnessing the rise of a boss in the music industry that carries the DMV on his back at every step. Get familiar! Judah the Producer is coming out hard in 2010.

Are we at WAR with POP CULTURE???

Share

It’s the dawn of new decade. At a time when we are all reflecting and taking stock of our lives, dear readers, lend me your eyes and your ears.
There’s a problem, a very serious problem. We are living in an age that’s has never been seen. Not by our parents or even some of their parents. It has been said in times of peril, the masses cling to impossible dreams and ways to mentally escape troubling times. During the Great depression they admired beautiful and glamorous Hollywood stars and with the addition of sound to films, the cinema was a popular and inexpensive way to cope with the hard times being had by all. Like the Great Drepression we are living in hard times, but we are also living in an age of information. Unlike any other time in human history we now have the ability to seek out and find anything about anyone, anytime. There’s nowhere to hide. Hungary paparazzi needing to feed their families, hunt celebrities relentlessly; all for our enjoyment. On sites like Facebook or Ustream you can reconnect with lost loves or watch your favorite sports star lose his mind right before your eyes ( you know who you are).
And it’s all crashing down before us... we have come so far in areas of science, technology, and medicine. We’ve been to the moon and back, but we have lost our way in so many ways. There’s no one keeping watch at the store and the employees have run amuck. We as an American society have let our children down. We have sold them pretty lies wrapped in pretty bows. We told them to be famous, be rich and you will be happy. We have given them too much, too soon and never let them desire to want or do anything. Being self indulgent and selfish is the new American way. Fame and celebrities are what we are being force fed in our media day in and day out. So you ask me what I think of pop culture today. I think it should be taken for what it is, it should not raise your kids, nor should it dictate any decision you make in life or love. Like cotton candy “pop life’ is fun, free, and fabulous. But be aware of the dark side to this laissez faire Candyland of pleasure.
Everything in life has a cycle. Like fashion trends that are constantly changing and then returning, we as a society will come full circle. Every day I hear more and more people voicing the same options I am. But in the mean time; I’m going to enjoy some of the fuckery that is now and wait until everyone wakes up and comes back to their senses.

Charlie Murphy's "The Making of a Stand-Up Guy"

Share

We all know Charlie Murphy from "The Chappelle Show" but now it's his time to shine! He just dropped a new book titled "The Making of a Stand-Up Guy" chronicling his life beyond just being Eddie's big brother and slapping the hell out of Rick James. He touches on everything from his years serving in the Navy to fame and the insane affect it can have on folks. Below is a quick excerpt from Chapter 10:

"When I was red-eyed and exhausted, sitting in a subway car on my way home to Linden Street from McCarren Pool in Brooklyn; or when I was sitting in my cell in Nassau County Jail, serving hamburgers out from under my nuts; or when I was sweating my ass off in the belly of the USS Joseph Hewes; or when I was being swept up in a seemingly endless sea of joyous fans at a stadium show for my world-famous brother; or even as I sat, hunched over in a hotel room, tapping my feverish thoughts into my computer — I could never have imagined this life for myself. Never. So that's what's up. I turn fifty this year and hope, with all sincerity, that I continue to connect with new fans along the way. In the end, I just want people to say, "Charlie Murphy? He's a funny dude. He does a great stand-up. And he's a real stand-up guy."

Just in case yall missed it, earlier this year he starred in a viral marketing campaign for the Jordan Brand starring as "Leroy Smith: The Man Who Motivated Michael Jordan". For those of you that don't know Leroy Smith was the cat that took MJ's spot when he was cut from the varsity squad in high school. You know he showed his ass with this one. Check him out...

Ohhh I'm not done yet... This dude is constantly on his grind with numerous projects, including the web series, Charlie Murphy's Crash Comedy where he and other Chappelle Show alum act a damn fool! Respect this dud's hussle man! Pimpin aint dead...it's just moved to the web.. Peep clips from Season One below.

Texas Southern University
3100 Cleburne Street 77004
Houston, TX

***UPDATE***
I was so excited about this... Its not everyday that you have the chance to attend a free event and be able to receive from influential and successful people, that look like me, in an open conversational setting. It seemed like a really diverse panel that I would be able to grab some insight from. But to my untrained eye, this financial summit was a sweeping success of spreading knowledge to help young African Americans flourish into becoming financially smart and aggressive CONSUMERS.

Don't get me wrong... there is an art to handling maneuvering, and multiplying the money and resources that you have and I recognize the fact that Russell Simmons and others have contributed in such a way to help educate, inform, and ultimately empower my people.

I dig that. I only had one issue...
You would think there would've been a greater emphasis on entrepreneurship. I mean damn... every 5 minutes "someone" aka Russell Simmons was plugging some a clothing line (FYI... We'll never stop wearing Polo this side of the Mason Dixie, homie...) or syndicated column or whatever is lining their pockets at the moment. I understand that is to be expected since entrepreneurship is what the majority of this panel represented. Taking stake in yourself, Building your own brand, your own entity... Being in control of your destiny. When u come from an entrepreneurial perspective, then u can understand the relevance of Aleshea Renee, who is an independent contractor for BET, Bun B, who helped create the underground southern sound and movement, and even Russell Simmons, who has historically and will continue to predictably go against the grain (in reference to traditional mainstream American society) in every aspect of his life, participating in this event.

The primary people of recognition on this panel were self made. They didn't go to college, get a job, work for 40 years and then retire. And probably never plan to a day in their life. I'm pretty sure the thought of waking up and punching a time clock repulses them, the way it does me and other people that are cut from a certain cloth. Which is why I was confused...

The intent didnt match the message. Am I really supposed to believe that Slim Thug can teach me how to balance a checkbook??? I mean really...

Maybe they just missed their "niche", ya know? This type of event could have been geared more towards high school students. Maybe then one of the smart mouth, condescending ass female panelists (I don't remember her name because you KNOW I would have called her ass out...) would have a legitimate reason to feel compelled to explain the definition of the word "consolidated" to a group of capable and intelligent college educated people that elected to take time out of their Saturday morning to attend a financial summit. (She ran me hot....)

But at the end of the day, I feel that the intention was in the right place. Uncle Russ is getting his tax write off and I gotta blue plastic Walmart bag full of capitalist propaganda. :) Gotta love it... after all this is a financial summit.

There is no doubt that Russell Simmons and others on that panel are leaders in our community. They are examples of success some people are only willing to dream about. But you have to wonder in which direction are they leading?? In this time of greed and materialistic values, we need to be very aware of how we SPEND our money... not only in the practical sense of the word but in the moral sense as well. KNOW where your money GOES. Spend your money with companies that you believe in and ideals you support.
Just because Russell Simmons wants to teach you how to spend YOUR money, doesn't mean you have to spend it with him. Which at the end of the day, was a big part of what this financial summit seemed to be about.

Fierce Friday : La Janid

Share

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fiercest of them all? Well this weeks kids it's my hometown heroine Janid "La Janid" Ortiz. This diva has been in the game a long time.. So long in fact she has released three critically hailed CD's and has had time to make the switch from R&B, to a more eclectic , electric sound. I am a personal close friend of this Latina powerhouse and all I can say is if you don't know her by now, the you are not in the "know". I contacted her "people" and this is what they had to say about La Janid:

Steadily rising to international superstardom, Electronica songstress Janid (jah-NEED) has been an amazing vocal talent from the first time she stepped into the music scene back in 2005. Now with her third album, the New York based veteran singer-songwriter proves to be one of the few artists who consistently delivers a fresh sound with an optimistic perspective. She charms her audiences with infectiously catchy hooks and distinctively enchanting vocals, while remaining balanced in the reality and rawness of the female human emotion. Growing up in Puerto Rico , Janid was always a performer. She recalls,
"Even though we were poor, my mom somehow managed to put me in ballet, jazz dancing, belly dancing, modeling, singing lessons and private school, where I joined my first choir. After graduating college, I spent long hours after work and during the weekends in the recording studio singing jingles, radio station IDs and co-writing and providing vocals for major label artist demos."
Shortly thereafter, La Janid moved to NY and begin recording her solo album. Her debut Goddess was released on the Dead Ninja Records label in 2006. Goddess went on to earn her 4 Stars on Amazon.com, 4 Stars on
VH1.com and the CNet Editor's Pick for Brown Eyed Soul Artist award. Later that year she was voted New York 's Sexiest Latina by Farandulife Magazine. By the release of her second CD entitled ONE, Janid was performing at sold out shows and festivals around the country, had landed an endorsement deal with PR'z Fynest clothing line, a new record deal with Zonisphere Records, and her first movie role in the 5.2 Films motion picture "Bare Knucklez".

"With her third CD "Twisted", Janid unveils a new look, a new sound in what is being labeled as her best work to date. Produced by Kaydean, Twisted captures Janid's new edgy persona and distinctive vocals and delivers an unexpected explosion of new, futuristic sounds, captivating melodies and remarkable lyrics. The title track "Twisted" brilliantly conveys Janid's transformation describing herself as vicious, wicked, and deranged while stating "this good girl has gone bad". Also on the CD is the loungy "Red Velvet Curtains," in which Janid delivers a flawless, and vulnerably charming vocal performance as she describes her struggle trying to blend "with the rest of the phony crowd." Once again, Janid reveals herself to be a fearless chameleon, displaying multiple personalities and moods from the beginning to the end of this continuous-play album that's sure to continue her ascent into stardom.

Janid - Twisted

Janid is definitely on the verge and her newest release "Twisted" is currently on sale on Amazon.com (official release date is May 19th) Twisted will also be available everywhere else including iTunes, CD Baby, etc. The single "Twisted" is currently on rotation in Italy and the UK and she is currently planning her tour which will include Las Vegas , Miami , New York , California , Italy , the UK and Iceland. I said it before and I'm going to say it again J-O is definitely one to watch and you know your girls at Hoodsocialite bring it to first and fresh!

Toodles Poodles,

Tiffaney

Socialite Exclusive: Kim Kardashian Launches Shoe Dazzle

Share

Kim K is really about to get that gwap. She is launching a site for an online "shoe society". Peep game:

"It’s no ordinary shoe-shopping, says the enterprising reality star. It’s a “society” you have to join. And every month, after taking a survey, shoes “handpicked” by the site’s fashion experts are sent to you."

The shipping is free. The membership is not however. So basically you're guaranteed to buy at least one pair of shoes from her every month for a specific amount of time... Genius.
It makes me think I really spend way too much on shoes anyway but I'm on the fence about this one... On one hand it takes so much time to find REALLY fly shoes. Lord knows, I've wasted away plenty of Tuesday afternoons shoe shopping but that's also the fun of it too...

Either way, it's a pretty good idea and you gotta respect the hussle. Get it Kim.
