“Music is really my native language. Probably a year after I moved to the United States, I realized that I had forgotten how to speak Korean. But I still didn’t really know English, so the only way I could communicate was with my music, on the stage through the violin.” ~ Hahn-Bin

JAMMY JAM OF THE DAY: CEE-LO GREEN EDITION

Share

Here's a lil teaser from "The Lady Killer" that dropped this past Tuesday. This is one of my favorite songs of his new album. I will have to assume that if you dont buy this new Cee Lo Green, you hate good music. I mean, do I really have to give you reasons to jam this dude?

Im old school, so I went and bought the CD but here's the link to buy The Lady Killer on ITunes if you have the itch to download it in all of its greatness.

Independent Producers!! This is seems like a great opportunity for you to get your music in the right hands. Eventhough I'm not in the music business, I DO know that spamming the hell out of someone's inbox on twitter or facebook is not a good look. Use the available avenues open to you, hit the streets and engage in some "real life" grinding and make it happen. Tonight is the last night so make sure to take full advantage. Good luck!!

CINEMA ARTS FESTIVAL // HOUSTON

Share
Take a peek at our hottest picks for this years Cinema Art Festival:

"Welcome to the shadowy world of the street are subculture."
A production of Shoot. Edit. Sleep. in collaboration with Stone Kanyon Productions and Aerosol Warfare.

"Under the able baton of late, legendary Houston music educator Dr. Conrad Johnson, Kashmere High School's band program became a force to be reckoned with in the '60s and '70s. Augmenting the traditional symphonic repertoire with everything from jazz to James Brown, the Kashmere Stage Band cleaned up at virtually every regional, state and national contest it entered. The bands also released several albums that were originally intended as fund-raisers but became highly sought-after collectibles and sampling gold mines for adventurous DJs such as Houston-born Premier of Gang Starr. Dozens of KSB alumni went on to become professional musicians and music educators in their own right." (Chris Gray, Houston Press)

Check out the trailer below as the director explains how the music and arts directly correlates to higher grades and community pride.

Thunder Soul will be screened at Discovery Green followed by a performance by Kashmere Reunion stage Band. This event is free to the public.

SMIRNOFF PRESENTS: MASTER OF THE MIX LAUNCH PARTY // HOUSTON (PICS)

Share

The Houston Launch for "Master Of The Mix" was a sexy event held @ The Smirnoff Sanctuary last week that gave the attendees an early viewing of the new TV show airing on the Centric network and BET on Wednesday evenings (check your local listings). Hosted by Kid Capri and Just Blaze, this show guarantees to bring something to different to the table every week. What I love about this reality show is that these contestants aren't some thirsty, fame whores that decided the way up out of trailer park hell was to sell their soul on TV. These are all respected, world famous, critically acclaimed artists who are vying for not only a lil extra change in their pocket (250 Grand to be exact) and immortality in the form of a commemorative Smirnoff bottle, but are representing some of THE BEST the game has to offer and title of MASTER of the MIX.

JAMMY JAM OF THE DAY: ANDRE 3000 // I DO

Share

Yes!!

There was alot of buzz today about Kanye West releasing a new song w/ Beyonce and Charlie Wilson on Angie Martinez's radio show this morning and eventhough its hot, its not Andre 3000. I've been waiting for what seems like forever, for 3 Stacks to drop an album and if this is any indication of what we will be blessed with, I'll be patient.

There's no substitute for honest, naked, genuine, genius and that's exactly what you're getting with any Outkast/Andre 3000/Big Boi project.

Just dont make us wait too long, Andre. The game needs you.

THE COCKER SPANIELS @ SUPER HAPPY FUN LAND // 08.06.2010 (HOUSTON)

Share
I cant wait to hear "The Cocker Spaniels" live @ Super Happy Fun Land for several reasons.

#1. I've been waiting for a chance for check out this place. I found out after the fact when DJ Jazzy Jeff rocked it there and a certain fashion event that went down on said premises was also a missed opportunity, so I'm due to see what this place is all about.

#2. I found Sean Padilla on Twitter (a place where I find so many gems) and he just seems like such a genuine and talented artist. He works a fulltime job doing something I haven't really figured out yet, but I have to admit, I thoroughly enjoy his sporatic angry work rants. Follow him on Twitter. Thank me later.

#3. He bakes cookies on the side to support his music which is so dope to me for some reason. I'm gonna have to see what those snickerdoodles are talking about, too. It's on my to-do list to place my order on Friday.

He's his own manager, agent, publicist, and street team and he is making extremely beautiful and authentic music, in my humble opinon. Gotta love that or at the very least respect it. His influences are The Beattles, Prince, Jimmy Hendricks, and Dilla among others and the way everything comes together is pretty awesome and unique. Check out a live interview and performance of Sean Padilla of The Cocker Spaniels on 90.1 FM (http://www.kpft.org/) this Friday at 1:00 P.M.

SOCIALITE SPOTLIGHT: AMERICAN FANGS

Share

The American Fangs are a very unique pop/punk/rock band coming straight from our very own Houston, TX.  Gabriel Cavazos, the singer, gave a perfect depiction of their perspective and style; "...alot of cats think nowadays you gotta chose a lane and ride it til' the wheels fall off, but we're more into zig zaggin', switchin' lanes, taking up like four lanes and pissing people off.  We like what we do and we ride a unicycle right down that thin line between edge and pop."  I love that shit.

Since living in Houston I've come to a personal conclusion; and that is; the music hasn't died.  Houston music still lives and will forever live.  It's the support and hype and unity and encouragement that I feel has died. I feel like drama has far outshined and exceeded the unity and support that Houston was once known for. No matter the genre.  No matter the age, ethnicity, creed.  No matter what side of town you are from or represent, Houston, we need to get out of our own way and support everyone that's on their grind and following their dreams.

THE SPORTS GENIUS: THE KING OF THE TRILL // TRILL OG ALBUM REVIEW

Share
TRILL OG has received 5 mics from The Source.

Whats up World? @Playa-MadeCAL-JAC, is back on this Blog Shit! Whats up to my Playa-Made Productions & my Hood Socialite Family. Let's Grind 'Til We Get It!

Last time I talked about King James going to the Heat to join 1/5 of the Gold Medalist Redeem Team. I cant wait to see the Lakers vs. Heat Finals with Phil Jackson vs. Pat Riley and Kobe's hardest test for 6 Rings like you know who?!?! Ya'll remember I called this prediction out. But real talk, nothing else is really happening in sports. Sorry, I don't watch Baseball until October. ESPN is so lame right now. Same ol' Brett Favre returning or retiring bullshit. Tiger hasn't won yet, so golf is wack right now too. Micheal Vick almost gets in trouble, again. A-Rod suck on 599 homeruns trying to get to 600. Hard Knocks with The Jets hasn't started on HBO, yet. Fat Albert Haynesworth keeps failing his fitness test. N.F.L. Training camp injuries & greedy players holding out for more money... If I didnt have my Sunday Night HBO Line-up, I wouldn't have nothing to watch on T.V. The most exciting thing that is happening sports related is Madden 11 drops on Tuesday, August 10th at 12:01am.

SOCIALITE EXCLUSIVE: HIP HOP FOR HIV @ RELIANT CENTER (PICS)

Share

The crowd was insane this past Friday night at the Hip Hop 4 HIV concert! This year’s concert featured performances from artists including Bun B, Lloyd Banks, Z-Ro, Plies, Paul Wall, The Party Boyz, Papareu, and Just Brittany. The energy was intense and excited fans hung over the barriers, reciting songs word for word, as those remaining in the crowd of threw up the "H" with pride as some of the hottest acts from Houston and around the country made their way up to the stage. Despite a 5 foot barrier and the presence of Houston police, there were several small altercations that broke out, due to sheer excitement, as fans tried to get a better view of the artists. Considering the fact that the demographic were ages 14-20, these types of issues are to be expected and anticipated and the staff at Reliant Center did a great job of keeping order and preserving the integrity of the event. With that being said, Hood Socialite braved the crowd and enjoyed VIP/Backstage Access to get YOU exclusive coverage!!
