Congratulations... Essie Chambers

Share
BET has named Essie Chambers as VP of original programming. Chambers will oversee all aspects of development for the network's reality and scripted series, as well as shows currently on the air.

Let's see what's really good because BET gets NO play on my TV anymore. Seriously, if any channel needed an absolute overhaul...its BET. When traveling to other parts of the world, especially being a woman of color, I have had to address many different and ignorant stereotypes just because of what people see on BET... real talk. I hope this sista can get it together and if not... I know who to address my letters of complaint to. Ya heard??

And I Quote...

Excerpts from the Presidential Weekly Address:

"I'm grateful to Congress, governors and mayors across the country, and to all of you whose support made this critical step possible....

Because of what we did, our children can now graduate from 21st century schools and millions more can do what was unaffordable just last week -- get their college degree...

Because of what we did, lives will be saved and health care costs will be cut with new computerized medical records...

Because of what we did, 95 percent of all working families will get a tax cut -- in keeping with a promise I made on the campaign. And I'm pleased to announce that this morning, the Treasury Department began directing employers to reduce the amount of taxes withheld from paychecks -- meaning that by April 1st, a typical family will begin taking home at least $65 more every month. Never before in our history has a tax cut taken effect faster or gone to so many hardworking Americans...

And ensure that all of this is done with an unprecedented level of transparency and accountability, I have assigned a team of managers to make sure that precious tax dollars are invested wisely and well."

Get it Mr. President...

"You can not generate sustained growth without getting your deficits under control."- Barack Obama (Feel free to intepret that in any area of life you choose, ya dig?)

***NEWSFLASH FOR ALL YOUNG BLACK MALES***

The world is full of so many different experiences in every area of life! You are more than entertainment. There is more to you than putting on a show. There is more to life than rappin, ballin, smoking, clubbin and beating down thirsty cum guzzling skanks. You have the capability to achieve whatever goals you set for yourselves, which in return will uplift you, your community, and the world. Don't get me wrong, everyone has special gifts and some men were BORN to entertain or to be professional athletes but we need stop short changing our future black men into believing that those are the only two options available to them. I mean damn...

Dont get me wrong Trae holds it down for his city and is more involved in the community more than ANY other rapper Ive seen. Its nothing wrong with wanting to be like Trae or be a rapper, but just know what those are not your only options.

Marry Your Baby Daddy Day...

Share

While killing time on Facebook, I saw a posting by one of my online "friends", MaryAnn Reid. The title was "Marry Your Baby Daddy Day" and I fell out! This had to be a joke, right?? Ooohhh but its not... the joke is that we are in NEED of a "marry your baby daddy day". WTF is wrong with this picture?? Don't get me wrong, I respect the concept and overall it is a very positive thing for couples (especially black couples) to come together and unify their families and I support her 100% (She actually writes one of my FAVORITE blogs, www.alphanista.com) but I mean damn. This is the shit I'm talking about. Me, personally, I have no plans on becoming a baby mama. I'm wifey material and a lot of men respect that about me and yet are intimidated at the same time. I expect more from a man and call me old school but I was under the impression that you should be married BEFORE you start having kids. Don't get me wrong, I understand things happen and believe me I am NOT judging anyone reading this blog. This is just my opinion on the matter. But, I have to say that the baby mama epidemic is out of control in the black community. The saddest part about all this is that there are too many baby mama's out there that will never get that ring or that child support. Okkk. Accountability is the word of the day...and some of yall out there need to get it together...

Black History Month

Since February is officially "Black History Month" we've decided to showcase significant events that have affected us personally, here at Hoodsocialite.com. I think one of the most eye opening aspects of our history for me, was reading the Willie Lynch Letter. The reason I am presenting this to you is that, to my surprise, that many people are unaware that it even exists and I have to warn you...its not for the faint of heart. But reading this letter and exploring the effect that is still having on our people to this day is critical to healing ourselves and finally taking accountability for our actions, our families, and our legacy. It will make you realize and appreciate our progress as a people because if you don't know your history, you can not possibly prepare for the future.

With that being said, the fact the we have our 1st ever BLACK PRESIDENT makes this literature even more relevant and it is important that it is shared, explored, and understood. What we can not do is become our own worst enemy and no matter what the obstacles or challenges we may face we will survive and thrive. We only get better with time baby... and THANK YOU to President Obama for showing us that the only thing stand in our way is us. YES WE CAN! I bet that Willie Lynch bastard wouldn't talk that shit now....
